Read to Achieve

Bouncing around with excitement, but only a few questions, Pack 79 from the Venice Japanese Community Center Den 5 Tiger Cubs visited the Rafu Shimpo offices in Little Tokyo on Thursday, April 1. The boys, whose ages ranged from 6 to 8, took a tour of the newsroom and got a taste for how the Rafu is created on a daily basis. Their visit fulfilled achievement 4 in the Tiger Cub handbook which states: “When people want to communicate with hundreds or thousands of people at the same time, they may use a television or radio broadcast, or they may write their message in a newspaper, book or magazine. The goal is to show boys how media can be used to communicate with a lot of people.” The Rafu Shimpo, which just celebrated its 107th birthday this past weekend, has been disseminating news via print for over a century.
