Los Angeles Police Department Harbor homicide detectives are asking for the public’s help in providing any information that would lead to the arrest of a suspect or suspects who murdered an 18-year-old Los Angeles resident.
On Dec. 13 at around 5:55 a.m., LAPD Harbor area patrol officers received a call of a stabbing on the 21400 block of Halldale Road. When the officers arrived at the scene, they saw an unresponsive man lying on the ground, apparently suffering from stab wounds to his upper torso.
Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded and transported the man to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The victim was identified as an 18-year-old Hispanic man named Race Uyeki.
Harbor detectives believe that an unknown suspect or suspects stabbed the victim numerous times and left the scene. They have not been identified and no weapons have been recovered. The motive is unknown.
The Daily Breeze reported that Uyeki’s MySpace page identifies him as a member of the Eastside Torrance gang.
When asked about the victim’s racial/ethnic background, given that Uyeki is a Japanese name, LAPD Capt. William Hayes told The Rafu Shimpo, “Although the victim has a name that appears Asian, he was of many different ancestries that included both Asian and Hispanic origins.”
Hayes added that Uyeki appeared to follow the lifestyle of Hispanic street gangs.
