Healthy foods are in . . . the time is right! Simply mind over matter.

True Food Kitchen opened up in August at Newport Beach’s Fashion Island, neighboring Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion Restaurant. Next month, their second Cali resto opens at Santa Monica Place.

It’s all about healthy eating with foods that are flavorful and fresh. Stop by for locally-sourced, seasonal, quality produce and ingredients, all in one inviting open air setting. A perfect formula for nutritious dining started with their conceptual menu from the best-selling, healthy living guru Dr. Andrew Weil.

Lively splashes of lemon yellows and apple greens add to their environmentally friendly “green” design. Reclaimed wood floors, recycled quarry tiles, water purification system, to name a few.

Lunch-goers almost filled the 250-capacity restaurant on a visit in March. So very Newport Beach is an enticing outdoor courtyard area, with plenty of umbrellas and heaters, depending on the weather.

The word is out! Foodies are coming back for these faves—Tuscan kale salad, Panang curry, flourless chocolate cake and noteworthy beverage selections. Fish-lovers savor the miso-glazed black cod and grilled steelhead salmon.

Meat-eaters can chow on newly added grass-fed bison burgers with umani mushrooms or natural certified Angus beef steak tacos. It’s a place to be adventuresome — there’s such a tempting variety of entrées, pastas and pizzas.

Our starter dish, edamame dumplings, sounded intriguing. Three pieces were plated in a light, ginger-spiked white truffle oil broth. Delicate. Delicious. Puréed with daikon, the flavor is a new take on boiled soybeans served at the sushi counter.

Not to be missed are some pretty amazing salads — oh so good! The refreshing spring harvest salad was spot on with a contrast of textures, colors and flavors — mixed greens, pomegranate, jicama, walnuts, Manchego cheese plus a spirited vinaigrette.

Lightly seared wild ahi sliders with radish, avocado and cucumber and a dollop of  wasabi alioli can match any hamburger sliders out there. Try the surprisingly yummy sweet potato hash with carmelized onions as a side dish. French fries were not missed.

Thinking green is the mantra for the David and Leslie Hutchens family of seven. They try to buy organic foods whenever possible. With five growing kids, there’s never a dull moment in this household.

Mom keeps busy — dishes, housecleaning and washing diapers for her fifth child, a 14-month-old girl. You get my drift. Sound familiar? And poor Mom, her hands have become really dry and chapped.

To the rescue comes her oldest child, 14-year-old Tiffany, the mad scientist and make-up consumer. Recruiting her two younger sisters, Annalise, 11, and Gabrielle, 9, together they formulated 100 percent natural, all-organic hand lotion bars and lip balm.

Tianaga Organic Skin Care was born. As the girls are involved in a homeschooling kids entrepreneur club, they are encouraged to start their own businesses and to be productive with their time.

Mom became GP, the official guinea pig, to find out if the potion works. Will their potpourri lotion enriched with certified organic shea and coconut oil and butters, pure essential oils, natural beeswax and vitamin E soothe and moisturize her skin without feeling greasy? Will her hands look young again?

Thumbs up! Mom loves the Choco-Mint bar so much that she gets tempted to bake chocolate chip cookies. Just might be that alluring peppermint aroma. This lotion is solid at room temp. But, it melts with body heat for absorption to heal the skin.

Three lip balm flavors will delight. Pick from mint, vanilla honey and sweet orange blossom.
