The Southeast Japanese School and Community Center, 14615 Gridley Rd., Norwalk, will be holding its 48th annual Cultural Festival (formerly called the Carnival) and Ondo (Japanese folk dancing) on Saturday, July 23, and Sunday, July 24.
The Cultural Festival on Saturday starts at 3 p.m. Judo, kendo and karate demonstrations will be presented indoors. The Karaoke Show, Hawaiian Delites and Hikari Taiko/Soran-Bushi will be presented on the outdoor stage.
Sunday’s activities start at 2 p.m. and will include Japanese classical dance, guitar presentations and a Hawaiian dance show as well as bingo games in the gym. Karaoke and Hikari Taiko/Soran Bushi will also be presented outdoors. Ikebana and Japanese school students’ artwork will be on display both days.
Ondo dancing starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday and 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Every year the carnival games and plant sale are big attractions. Everyone is welcome to attend. Admission is free.
Free onto lessons are being offered Mondays and Thursdays from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. until the festival. For more information, call (562) 863-5996.
