A resolution authored by Los Angeles School Board Vice President Dr. Richard Vladovic in March has resulted in the collection to date of $25,000 to aid victims of the March 11 Japanese earthquake and tsunami.
Most of the money has been donated by Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) employees, in spite of the fact many of them are facing financial challenges due to the district’s ongoing budget crisis.
“I am so proud of the Los Angeles Unified School District family; it always steps up to do the right thing,” said Vladovic. “In this case, we have reached out to help mitigate some of the suffering that continues in Japan.”
The resolution, co-sponsored by board member Marguerite LaMotte, established an LAUSD campaign to donate funds to help those who are in need as a consequence of one of the most devastating natural disasters in history.
