Public Appreciation Event Planned for Sept. 7

The Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles and other organizations will hold a public appreciation event, “Arigato,” on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 180 days after the March 11 earthquake, at the JACCC Plaza, 244 S. San Pedro St., Little Tokyo, from 6 p.m.

“A common adage says that tough times reveal true friends. I’m so glad that 3.11 — as the Great East Japan Earthquake has come to be known — has demonstrated that the United States, and especially Southern California, is an exceptional friend of Japan,” said Consul General Junichi Ihara.

There will be musical performances, sake and foods from the Tohoku region, as well as an update on the latest relief efforts.

The consulate is sponsoring the event along with the Japan Business Association of Southern California; the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Southern California; the Japan Prefectural Association of Southern California; the Japan Foundation Los Angeles; the Japan External Trade  Organization Los Angeles; and the Japan National Tourism Organization Los Angeles.

The public is invited to attend this free event. For more information, call the consulate at (213) 617-6700.
