SAN FRANCISCO — The Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California will host the book launch of “Sora and the Cloud” by writer/illustrator Felicia Hoshino on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the JCCCNC, 1840 Sutter St. in San Francisco Japantown.
The release of Hoshino’s latest children’s book will be celebrated with a bilingual reading and a book-signing. “Sora and the Cloud” is about a boy who travels on a cloud and shares a breathtaking adventure in the sky. This flight of fancy is created in Hoshino’s evocative style of mixed media. The Japanese translation by Akiko Hisa highlights empowering themes of self-discovery and cultural exchange.
Hoshino was born and resides in San Francisco. She earned a BFA in illustration from the California College of the Arts. She draws for Cricket, Cicada, and Ladybug magazines.
She is the author of “A Place Where Sunflowers Grow,” which won the 2007 Jane Addams Children’s Book Award, was listed as “notable” by the International Reading Association in 2007, and was among the San Francisco Chronicle’s Best Books of 2006.
The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Seats are limited. RSVP by contacting the JCCCNC at (415) 567-5505 or [email protected]
