Assembly Speaker John A. Pérez (D-Los Angeles) has endorsed Al Muratsuchi for the newly drawn 66th Assembly District.
The 66th includes the coastal cities of Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Torrance, and the Palos Verdes Peninsula, as well as Gardena and West Carson.
“I’m supporting Al Muratsuchi for State Assembly because of his strong background in education, public safety, and delivering balanced budgets while preserving high-quality education and raising test scores,” said Pérez. “It is exactly the kind of experience and leadership our communities need in Sacramento.”
Muratsuchi is a member of the Torrance School Board, a deputy attorney general, and a former criminal prosecutor. During his tenure on the School Board, Torrance schools took honors as high-achieving schools, consistently delivered a balanced budget despite state budget cuts, and embarked on the largest school repair and modernization program in the district’s history.
A two-term school board member, Muratsuchi was the top vote-getter in his last election.
Other endorsers include Reps. Janice Hahn (D-Los Angeles) and Judy Chu (D-El Monte), State Sen. Ted Lieu (D-Torrance), Assemblymember Mike Eng (D-Monterey Park), and Gardena Mayor Paul Tanaka.
