Assemblymember Warren Furutani (D-Long Beach) announced that International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 13, the largest ILWU Local on the West Coast, has endorsed his campaign for Los Angeles City Council.
“ILWU Local 13 represents thousands of workers in the 15th City Council District who work at the Port of Los Angeles,” Furutani said in a letter to his supporters. “They are the men and women whose dedication and hard work make the port the economic engine that it is. I am very honored to have their support.
“We continue to win big endorsements. Recently, the powerful L.A. County Federation of Labor, the California Nurses Association, the United Farm Workers, civil rights icon Dolores Huerta, and San Pedro Assemblywoman Bonnie Lowenthal are all supporting my campaign for City Council.”
Furutani and LAPD officer Joe Buscaino were the top vote-getters in the Nov. 8 election and will face off in a runoff election on Jan. 17. The winner will replace former City Councilmember Janice Hahn, who was elected to Congress.
