Mainstream Productions presented Nisei Showoff 2012, held on the corner of 1st and Alameda in Little Tokyo on Saturday. Blazing heat didn’t stop these car enthusiasts from attending the annual Nisei Week festival and car show. (Photos by AYAME KOUSAKA/Rafu Shimpo)

Mike Muniz of Montrose, Calif., a first time contestant of the Nisei Week Showoff Car Show stands proudly next to L’L MANGO, a ‘73 Toyota Corolla Levin. In ‘88 he purchased this JDM (Japanese domestic market), RHD (right hand drive) vehicle and it took him 10 years to fully restore it to its natural luster. Muniz, a Golds Gym personal trainer and Mercedes-Benz mechanic, uses this wicked beauty as daily driver, commuting 800 miles a week.
