The Dancing Candidate

Rep. Mazie Hirono (center), who is running for the Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Daniel Akaka, has included Hawaii Obon festivals on her itinerary. She is pictured at Manoa Koganji Temple on Aug. 4. Hirono, who describes herself as a non-practicing Jodo Shinshu Buddhist, also visited Palolo Hongwanji, Jikoen Hongwanji, and Kahului Hongwanji. She will face off with former Rep. Ed Case in the state’s Democratic primary on Aug. 11. The winner will run against Republican former Gov. Linda Lingle in the general election. (Facebook)
