SEATTLE — The Pacific Jazz Institute at Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley welcomes Grammy-nominated jazz band Hiroshima for three performances in support of their latest CD release, “Departure.”
The shows are on Tuesday through Thursday, Jan. 15-17, at 7:30 p.m.
Dan Kuramoto, co-founder of the celebrated band, stated, “Hiroshima is pleased to make a return to the Northwest in more than 10 years. We are honored to be invited by the Pacific Jazz Institute and will present a full program from ‘Departure,’ our follow-up CD to our Grammy-nominated ‘Legacy’ CD. Please join us as we celebrate the 2013 Lunar New Year – the Year of the Snake.
“Almost 40 years later, we still see the music we make as a continual experiment. We’re just so grateful that it has found connections to so many people’s lives over the years. Our loyal fan base means everything to us. We invite you to join us and discover the sounds of ‘Departure.’
“Beginning with ‘Have You Ever Wondered,’ a luscious, textured piece featuring June (Kuramoto) and the harmonica virtuoso Tetsuya Nakamura, ‘Departure’ is a journey of nine songs, including the jazzy funk of ‘Koto Cruise,’ a heart for Japan in ‘Blues for Sendai,’ rockin’ blues in ‘Smiling Jack,’ the sensual soul of ‘See You Again,’ the voice and the thunder of ‘Yamasong Duet,’ the power and spirit of ‘First Nation,’ and two new visitations to our most popular songs, ‘Thousand Cranes’ and ‘One Wish.’
“Sign up to join our Hiroshima community and get your member discount, and we will let you know about new stuff, free downloads, discounts and more. We will post those stores on our site soon. Contact us if you’d like to join the list. Check out our website at: www.hiroshimamusic.com.”
