Fukuda, the last surviving student of judo founder Jigoro Kano, established a dojo for women in San Francisco and is the subject of a documentary, “Mrs. Judo.” The brief ceremony was held Jan. 19 at the Japanese American National Museum, with, from left: Fukuda protégée Eiko Shepherd, John Esaki, director of the Media Arts Center at JANM, and Gary Goltz, representative for Councilmember Tom LaBonge and president of the U.S. Judo Association.
