NORWALK — The Southeast Japanese School and Community Center will be hosting its annual Recognition and Awards Dinner on Sunday, April 13.
Social hour begins at 4:30 p.m., with live music provided by Kamaki Keawe and Vic. Hikari Taiko will perform at 5:10 p.m., followed by an Island-style dinner at 5:30 p.m.
This year’s Volunteer Service Awards go to basketball coach Kirk Iwami and judo instructor and chef Johnson Long. Both have devoted many years working with their students, while helping the center improve its newsletter and food services.
Special recognition will go to the Blue Angels basketball team, coached by Glenn Umemoto and Ben Jacobe, for their charitable community work performed annually since the girls were in second grade.
Summer Fujii and Kaelyn Kawamoto will receive scholarships from the Koichi and Toyo Nerio Scholarship Fund. Athletic scholarships will also be awarded to graduating high school seniors.
Entertainment will feature Japanese dancing by Ayame Kai, songs by Kelsy Kwong, and Hawaiian dance by Na Wahine O’Kawena.
