The evening’s honorees are:
• Tomo Mizutani, president, Toyo Tire Holdings of Americas Inc. Nitto Tire U.S.A. Inc. is a Japanese success story in the United States. Under Mizutani’s leadership, the company’s revenues have increased three-fold and the tire units more than doubled. While still catering to the car enthusiasts who helped establish the brand, Mizutani has led Nitto’s award-winning marketing efforts, expanding the brand and garnering 6 million Facebook fans. Mizutani has also served as a leader in U.S.-based corporate social responsibility through Nitto’s support of Japan America Society and other important Japanese American community and veteran organizations.
• Taylor Anderson and Montgomery Dickson, JET Programme assistant language teachers. On March 11, 2011, two Americans participating in the JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) Programme as assistant English language teachers lost their lives during the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. Anderson, who was in Ishinomaki City, and Dickson, who was in Rikuzentakata City, will be forever remembered as cultural ambassadors representing the U.S. They had a positive influence on the people and communities they served.
