The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Oct. 27 recognized Don Nose, who has served as president of the Go For Broke National Education Center since 2010.

Nose recently announced that he will step down in June 2016 following the opening of GFBNEC’s new home in Little Tokyo.

Nose, accompanied by his partner, Lisa Sugimoto, son, Garrett, and GFBNEC staff and volunteers, received the proclamation from Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas.

The resolution read: “Donald R. Nose, in 2010, was appointed as president of Go For Broke National Education Center, to lead the organization in a critical period of growth and expansion … He focused on stabilizing operations, refocusing programs, rekindling relationships with veteran organizations, and building a broader base of supporters …

He successfully realized a long-held goal and found a home for Go For Broke National Education Center in the historic Nishi Hongwanji building next to the Go For Broke Monument, which commemorates the heroic role of the segregated Japanese American units of World War II …

“Mr. Nose brought over 30 years of senior management and leadership skills from his experience in the global for-profit business arena to Go For Broke National Education Center, which helped focus resources on the collection, preservation and sharing of the stories of the Nisei veterans …

“The stabilization and growth of Go For Broke National Education Center could not have been realized without his outstanding work.

“Now therefore, be it resolved that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles hereby commends Donald R. Nose as outgoing president of Go For Broke National Education Center and for his outstanding work, and extends sincere best wishes in his future endeavors.”

“I was deeply honored when the Board of Supervisors called and informed me that they would like to recognize me for my contributions to Go For Broke National Education center over the past five years,” Nose told The Rafu. “I am particularly gratified because we will occupy our new office space in the next three weeks and preview our leading-edge exhibition to the public on Saturday, May 28, 2016.”
