The documentary “We Are X” will be screened at the Nuart Theatre, 11272 Santa Monica Blvd. (just west of the 405 Freeway) in West Los Angeles, from Oct. 21 to 27.

Q&A with the director, acclaimed documentarian Stephen Kijak (“Stones in Exile,” “Scott Walker: 30 Century Man”), will be held after the screenings on Friday, Oct. 21, and Saturday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, Oct. 23, at 5:10 p.m. He will be joined by X Japan band leader Yoshiki on Friday only.

From the production team behind the Oscar-winning “Searching for Sugar Man” comes the transcendent rock & roll saga of X Japan, the world’s biggest and most successful band you’ve never heard of … yet.

Under the enigmatic direction of powerhouse drummer, pianist, composer and producer Yoshiki, X Japan has sold over 30 million albums and sold out the Tokyo Dome a record 18 times (one more than Michael Jackson) — captivating a wide range of admirers, including Sir George Martin, KISS, and even Japan’s emperor — and pioneered a spectacle-driven style of visual rock, creating a one-of-a-kind cultural phenomenon.

Chronicling the band’s exhilarating, tumultuous and unimaginable history over the past three decades — persevering through personal, physical and spiritual heartache — the film culminates with preparations for their breathtaking reunion concert at New York’s legendary Madison Square Garden. “We Are X” is an intimate portrait of a deeply haunted — but truly unstoppable — virtuoso and the music that has enthralled legions of the world’s most devoted fans.

In addition to Yoshiki, interviewees include X Japan members Toshi (lead vocals, acoustic guitar), Pata (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Heath (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Sugizo (lead guitar, violin, backing vocals); Stan Lee of Marvel Comics; Gene Simmons of KISS; and Wes Borland of Limp Bizkit.

Showtimes: 12:30, 2:50, 5:10, 7:30 and 9:45 p.m. Tickets: $11 for adults, $9 for children and seniors. For more information on the screenings, call (310) 473-8530 or visit www.landmarktheatres.com/los-angeles/nuart-theatre. The movie’s website is www.wearexfilm.com/.
