Feb. 27 —Learn about the benefits of a healthier lifestyle at the “Healthier Lifestyle” workshop, sponsored by the Bridge: JCI Heritage Center at the Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute (JCI). The workshop will be held on Saturday, Feb. 27 from 1 to 5 p.m.
at the JCI Nisei Veterans Hall.
Yumi Shioda is a certified Reiki Master, and certified Qi Kung and Tai Chi Chuan instructor, who will lead participants in Qi Kung breathing and simple movement exercises. She will also discuss principles influenced by macrobiotics, a diet and lifestyle philosophy developed by Dr. George Ohsawa and teachings spread by his student Michio Kushi.
Class discussion will be on ways of combining diet and exercise in contributing to improved health and overall vitality, as well as the importance of how to breathe, what to drink and eat. Following the discussion, a light meal based on the class presentation will be prepared and eaten by workshop participants.
Class size is limited to 25 participants, and the cost of the workshop is $25 per participant (for materials). The deadline for registration and payment is Feb. 17.
