Where Is My Heart?

Saturday, May 19, 2007

When extreme warm weather prevails as it often does in Los Angeles, I feel a great pang of homesickness for the beautiful city by the Golden Gate—San Francisco. I have such nostalgic memories of this city and reminisce about the good times and wonderful friends I left behind.

Chinaphobia and the Nikkei

Having just returned from a year abroad in Japan, one of the more interesting aspects that I encountered was just how active everyday citizens in Japan were in fighting for issues of peace and justice.

My 2008 Year In Review

Friday, January 16, 2009

Happy 2009. This is our first Ochazuke of the year, so I guess I should do something “new years-ish,” like new-year’s resolutions or a year in review. Since the Rafu conducted its own year in review on Jan. 1 and my resolutions are technically the same every year (read more, exercise more, eat well, not buying too many shoes, etc.), I would like to look back on my year 2008 and share that with our loyal readers.

No Bailout Here

Saturday, May 9, 2009

It turns out there are some problems that even Barack Obama won’t take on. White House Press Secretary Bob Gibbs ruled out the possibility of a bailout for the nation’s ailing newspaper industry, even as the Boston Globe negotiates with its union to avoid shutting its doors.

‘Tis the Season for API Giving

Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006

Ah, the holidays. They come up so quickly, don’t they? It’s so hard to believe that 2007 is just a few weeks away.  My husband Tony and I try to live within our means throughout the year so that we can support some of the Asian American and Pacific Islander nonprofit organizations who do such great work for the community.

It’s Christmas and I’m Off to Join the Choir

Monday, December 29, 2008

I love singing in a choir, especially at Christmastime. After all, what’s not to love? In addition to making beautiful music, you forge wonderful relationships, have the opportunity to sing in gorgeous halls and churches and you even get to dress like a Supreme Court justice.

With Asian Americans Like These... Who Needs Enemies?

Wednesday, April 9, 2008

If the Rafu Shimpo had lived up to its mission of reporting issues of importance to the Asian American community, you would already have read about MANAA’s battle with Sony Pictures over their new film “21.”

Absolutely Honest
Friday, February 20, 2009

I lost quite a few close friends this past year.
Now, not even two months into the new year and three more friends have passed on. Because of this, I have become more conscious of how connected we really are to one another.

The Big Fat Lie

Saturday, April 25, 2009

It’s a big fat lie. If someone tells you they are against same-sex marriage because they are defending marriage between a man and a woman, that’s nothing but a big fat lie.

The Best of Times Amidst the Worst of Times

Monday, Nov. 17, 2008

Tuesday night marked the most historic presidential election in all of American history. Most definitely in my 26 years of life. For those who have no idea what I’m talking about, this article is exactly for you.

Diet, Exercise and Sleep

Diet: To understand what a good diet is, educate yourself about nutrition. I have read several different books and looked for common advice. I also determine what works for me. For example, I know I need to eat a specific combination of different types of foods to feel satisfied and energetic.
