The play is presented in conjunction with the Japanese American National Museum exhibition Ansel Adams at Manzanar, organized by the Honolulu Academy of Arts. Tickets for the performance include admission passes for the exhibition.
“Farewell to Manzanar” was originally created as part of Literature to Life, Los Angeles, a program of Cornerstone Theater Company, in association with the American Place Theatre. Thousands of high school students have already had the opportunity to see and discuss the play in relation to their own experiences.
“The Japanese American National Museum is proud to partner with Cornerstone in bringing this landmark book to the stage,” stated Irene Hirano, President and CEO of the National Museum. “Thousands of students visit our Museum each year, and many of them prepare for their visit by reading ‘Farewell to Manzanar.’ This play will help more people to understand this chapter of U.S. history and will ensure it never happens again.”
Performances will take place Nov. 16, 17, 18 at 7 p.m.; Nov. 19 at 2 p.m.; Nov. 30, Dec. 1, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m.; and Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. at the Democracy Forum in the National Center for the Preservation of Democracy, an educational program of the Japanese American National Museum, 111 North Central Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90012 (adjacent to the Japanese American National Museum and MOCA Contemporary in downtown L.A.’s historic Little Tokyo). Note that performances will not take place over Thanksgiving weekend.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for National Museum members, seniors, and children (15 and under). To order tickets, call the Japanese American National Museum at (213) 625-0414. |
