Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. (CFP Board) is holding a free Financial Education and Planning event at the Los Angeles Convention Center on Friday, Aug. 4, to teach Americans about savings and investment options, provide individuals with tools to better manage their money and develop a financial plan for the future.

The event includes a Financial Planning Clinic, 12 financial education workshops and opportunities to hear from respected leaders on financial issues. At the Clinic more than 100 volunteer CFP(r) certificants will offer free one-on-one financial information and advice. Consumers may bring financial questions to the clinic, get advice on personal financial issues from the experts, and learn more about financial planning. There will be no sales of products or services at this event.

Scott Wedgbury is a CFP(r) certificant volunteer and will be available to provide free financial advice in Japanese at the financial planning clinic from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Wedgbury is a senior financial advisor with California Financial Partners, Inc., a registered investment advisor and fee-based planning organization.

The public may attend spotlight presentations from Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan, Senator Bob Kerrey of The New School, and incoming NASD CEO Mary Schapiro. Workshop discussion topics include financial literacy, the psychology behind spending, mutual funds, mortgage loans, financial planning as a profession, how to prepare for college loans, access to financial planning in the workplace and financial greatness for the working class.

CFP Board, a non-profit professional regulatory organization, awards CFP(r) certification in the U.S. to individuals who pass the CFP(r) Certification Examination and meet other high standards of competence and ethics in financial planning.

Pre-registration is recommended at www.CFP.net/register. For more information e-mail the CFP Board at AnnualMeeting@CFPboard.org or call (800)487-1497.
