4th Annual Orchid Festival to be Held Feb. 23-25

Orchid lovers, enthusiasts, and admirers rejoice! The City of Cerritos will hold its 4th Annual Orchid Festival Feb. 23, 24 and 25, in the Skyline Room of the Cerritos library, located at 10825 Bloomfield Ave., Cerritos.
The main varieties of orchids displayed will be cymbidiums and dendrobiums with an emphasis on hanging and pendulous orchids. A rare miniature Chinese cymbidium with variegated leaves will also be exhibited. There will be a few orchids for sale at the Festival.
Whether you are a novice or veteran orchid grower, don’t miss this opportunity to meet fellow enthusiasts. If you are interested in exhibiting your orchids, please call Harvey Chun at (562) 926-3565. There is no charge for admission or exhibiting orchids.
This Festival is unique in that it provides entertainment along with informative talks on the exotic orchid. The schedule is as follows:
Friday, Feb. 23
Festival opens 6–9 p.m.
6:30 p.m.: Western Farm will give a presentation the fertilization of orchids.
7 p.m.: Susan McCormick’s Ukulele ensemble E Mele Hana will enliven the stage along with Suzanne Houston’s Hula for Health dancers.
Saturday, Feb. 24
10 a.m.–5 p.m.
1 p.m.: Karen Toyoshiba’s Na Wahine ‘O Kawena will bring the rhythmic grace of Hawaiian dance to Cerritos accompanied by Kamaki Keawe and Le’o, and Keawe’s Ukulele Strummers.
3 p.m.: Tony Valarde will speak about cymbidiums and hybridizing orchids.
Sunday, Feb. 25
1–4 p.m.
2 p.m.: Max Cadabona and his troupe will provide lively Hawaiian entertainment.

If this is your first visit to the Cerritos Library, this venue is a “must see.” Be sure to allow enough time to tour the world’s first “Experience Library.” You will find a 15,000 gallon saltwater aquarium at the entrance of the titanium clad library; a full size replica of the tyrannosaurus rex under a ceiling of stars in the children’s section; numerous multimedia learning centers and conference rooms; over 200 computer work stations; seating with 1,200 laptop ports; and a radio frequency tracking system for its books. The Cerritos Library is a state of the art facility that provides thought provoking and on going enrichment programs for children, teens, and adults.
