Japanese Community Health Inc.(JCHI), a non-profit organization, will host a fundraising luncheon on Sept. 17 at the New Otani Hotel. The funds raised support many functions of JCHI, one of which is awarding scholarships to Japanese-English bilingual nursing students. The group’s aim is to increase the number of bilingual nurses who might be able to ease the concerns of many Japanese people when they are ill, which is not being able to communicate.
This year, JCHI is awarding five outstanding bilingual nursing students with this scholarship: Azusa Nishimura Cady, Miyuki Nishiyama, Sanae Watanabe, Celine Williams and David Yamada. The luncheon is scheduled with fun events such as silent auction and raffle prizes for the products donated by many supporting companies and individuals.
JCHI has been involved in the Southern California Japanese Community as a non-profit organization through offering medical support. JCHI offers free medical counseling every third Sundays, presents various medical information through Japanese TV program, assists with medical examination of the atomic bomb survivors, provide information at various health fairs, and offer scholarships to the Japanese-English bilingual nursing students. The funds raised from the luncheon are used to support the various activities that JCHI provides.
Individuals interested in JCHI can support the organization by attending the luncheon, purchasing a table for the luncheon, advertising in the program, donating silent auction/raffle prize items, and/or monetary donations. Tickets for the luncheon are $65. For more information, call (310) 316-5659. |
