Jimmy Katsumi Kawato

Jimmy Katsumi Kawato, born in Minidoka Concentration Camp, Idaho, on March 12, 1944, passed away in Saratoga Springs, Utah, on Aug. 20, 2017. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl (Firing); cousins, Terry Takeda, Sharlene Miyagishima, Todd Takeda, and Lisa Nagato Kennedy; uncle, Lincoln Nagato; and many friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Kazo and Yuki, brothers, Taro and Yukio, and sister, Taneko Tsuji.
He enjoyed inventing fertilizing and watering systems. He was active in National VIVA (Voices In a Vital America) at UCLA during the Vietnam War. He initiated the biennial Saratoga Springs Utah Fallen Heroes Family Day and was a proud member of the Patriot Guard Riders to stand for fallen military and first responders. He successfully fought against multi-family homes in a single-family residential neighborhood in the Utah Supreme Court.
