The thundering sounds of taiko will welcome in the holidays as TaikoProject will perform at the 50th Annual L.A. County Holiday Celebration on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24. The free holiday show is open to the public and will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in downtown Los Angeles.
Broadcast live on KCET on television and KPFK 90.7 FM, the Holiday Celebration features music and dance of the season from the many neighborhoods and cultures of Los Angeles.
TaikoProject is an ensemble of taiko drummers dedicated to promoting and advancing the American art of taiko. In the fall, the taiko group opened their own studio in Los Beach. More than 40 groups have been chosen to perform in this milestone celebration. Other sights and sounds planned for the Dorothy Chandler stage include English and Korean holiday songs from Opera California Youth Choir; street dance with a holiday spin from Antics Performance; African American music from the Albert McNeil Jubilee Singers; and a range of seasonal stylings from traditional to contemporary by the Valleyaires Barbershop Chorus, ARC Handbell Choir, Fishtank Ensemble, Element Band, and Salvation Army Tabernacle Children’s Chorus, and many others.
Parking under the Music Center is also free. For more information and/or a complete list of performers and a schedule, go to www.holidaycelebration.org or call (213) 972-3099. The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion of the Music Center is located at 135 N. Grand Ave. in Los Angeles 90012.
