Kurosawa to be Honored at 2010 Green Globe Awards


The Green Globes will pay tribute to legendary filmmaker Akira Kurosawa on the 100th anniversary of his birth.

The 2010 Green Globe Film Awards and Dinner Gala will be Hollywood’s largest celebration of people, planet, and motion pictures.

Spotlighting the power of film to inspire humanitarian efforts and environmental awareness, the celebration will feature surprise performances by Hollywood’s most celebrated entertainers and 100 Viewers’ Choice Awards which are voted for online at http://www.movie-voters.com.

Movie lovers from over 100 countries around the world have voted for their favorite actors, movies and filmmakers. The Green Globe Film Awards will be held on Tuesday, March 23rd in Los Angeles at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel, which is also the Grand Sponsor of the event.

The Green Globe Film Awards, co-organized by the Academia Foundation and Anaheim University, is one of Hollywood’s largest film award programs with 100 Viewers’ Choice Awards being selected online by film lovers, critics and movie viewers from around the world. Awards will be presented to major motion picture filmmakers and actors as well as top environmental, humanitarian, animated and international films.

The 2010 International Film Category Theme is “Asian Films” and Asian actors, filmmakers and actors of all genres will be honored. This focus on Asian films has caused a viral effect with Asian movie lovers eagerly asking fellow film fanatics to help Asian filmmakers and actors gain Hollywood recognition.

The Awards Gala will also feature a celebrity tribute to the legendary and much-adored filmmaker, producer and screenwriter Akira Kurosawa (March 23, 1910 – September 6, 1998) on the 100th anniversary of his birth. Kurosawa’s ground-breaking masterpieces have inspired such screenplay writers and film directors as George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola.

The Guest of honor at the event will be Emmy-Award and Golden Globe Award-winning American actress, comedian, singer, dancer and writer Carol Burnett who will establish the Anaheim University Carrie Hamilton Entertainment Institute in memory of her daughter, and conduct a live question and answer session.
A portion of the event proceeds will go to humanitarian and environmental assistance in Haiti and around the world.

The Green Globe Film Awards is organized by The Academia Foundation and the Anaheim University Akira Kurosawa School of Film.
