Valley Japanese Community Center will host their annual Obon Festival on Saturday and Sunday, June 26 and 27 from 5 to 10 p.m.
The Valley Japanese Community Center is located at 8850 Lankershim Blvd, Sun Valley. Delicious foods such as udon, sushi, Chinese chicken salad, fresh roasted corn on the cob, gyoza, chili rice, chicken teriyaki and homemade baked goods are some of the foods which will be available for purchase.
Demonstrations of Judo, Karate, Kendo and Tea Ceremony will be held. Festival-type games, exhibits of calligraphy, and schoolwork completed by Japanese School Students will be featured on both days. Back by overwhelming request, LA Matsuri Taiko will be giving a special performance during the Ondo break on Saturday.
Joining the Ondo circle again are The Obon Jivers, always a lively and welcome addition to every festival.
Valley Gakuen will host a Cosplay contest on Saturday. Bon dances are dances of joy so age , looks or experience should not inhibit anyone from entering the circle of dancers!
