CIF State Tournament First-Round Results and Tonight’s Quarterfinal Schedule

The CIF State Tournament’s Southern California Regional Playoffs continue tonight with second-round quarterfinal games. Results from some of the first-round contests involving athletes of interest follow:

Boys Div. 1

Westchester 61, Capistrano Valley 44
Capo top scorer Taylor Hamasaki was held to a meager six points as Westchester’s defense was too much for the Cougars, ousting them from the State Tournament.

Boys Div. 2

Foothill 46, Mission Viejo 43
Senior Luke Sakamoto did not score for Mission Viejo, who led until Foothill went on a run in the fourth quarter and earned a spot in the second round. It is the first time MV has lost back-to-back games since 2009.

PV Peninsula 65, Hoover 54
Peninsula advanced to the second round with a win at Hoover. Frosh Kurt Murakami did not score in the victory.
Tonight’s quarterfinal against Foothill has been moved to Cal State Dominguez Hills to accommodate an expected large crowd.

Boys Div. 5

Flintridge Prep 98, Tranquility 32
Kory Hamane scored 16, Robert Cartwright added 15 and Kyle Hamane netted nine points in a laugher against a clearly outmatched Tranquility squad. Flintridge hosts St. Bernard at St. Francis High School, tonight at 7 p.m.

Girls Div. 1

Troy 52, San Diego 44
Esther Du scored two points as Troy advanced to the quarterfinals. The Warriors host Narbonne tonight at 7 p.m.

Girls Div. 2

Canyon 72, South East 36
Lindsay Uyematsu posted a furious 12 points including a three-pointer Tuesday, as Canyon rolled over visiting South East. The Comanches play Westview tonight in Round 2.

Harvard-Westlake 66, Yosemite 54
Esther Lee scored 19 and Skylar Tsutsui added 13 for the Wolverines, who host Inglewood in tonight’s quarterfinals.

Palisades 67, Mark Keppel 59
Kylie Mizushima contributed a key rebound as Palisades outlasted Keppel to advance to tonight’s quarterfinal against Buena.

Girls Div. 5

Chadwick 53, Rolling Hills Prep 48
The Dolphins move on to the second round tonight, against View Park Prep at 7 p.m.

Polytechnic 63, Vincent Memorial 53
The Panthers travel to face Central Valley Christian in the second round today at 5:30.
