Fresno Community Organizes Relief Effort

FRESNO — The Fresno JACL has established the Japan Relief and Recovery Fund to benefit victims of the earthquake and tsunami.

“April 11th will already be the one month anniversary of the earthquake and tsunami,” said organizer Losa Jang of Visalia. “It is still taking its toll and the aftermath has yet to be realized.

“After watching the horrifying images of the destruction in Japan, I went online to make a donation but I felt that there was more that we could do. I had an idea that as a local community, we could come together and contribute in a collective way.

“This is how the Fresno Japan Relief and Recovery Fund started.”

A fundraiser has been scheduled for Sunday, April 10, at Takumi Restaurant, 3486 W. Shaw Ave. in Fresno. Food and beverages will be provided between 1 and 4 p.m. There will also be a silent auction. A minimum donation of $25 per person is requested.

“If you cannot attend, please consider making a donation to our fund,” said Jang. “Any amount would be appreciated.

“Please continue to spread the word and keep Japan in your thoughts and prayers. Every dollar represents a voice of hope. 100 percent of funds received for Japan will be directed toward the Japan relief effort. None of the funds donated for Japan will be used to pay for fundraising or administrative expenses, or for programmatic activities in other places.”
