The Japanese American Cultural and Community Center in Little Tokyo issued the following statement on Friday:
“The JACCC board and staff are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life caused by the series of powerful earthquakes and tsunami that struck Japan late yesterday. We watched with anguish as lives were uprooted and swept away. Our thoughts, sympathy and prayers go out to those impacted by this tragedy.
“We are working to get involved in a relief effort, and will keep our members and subscribers updated with any developments.
“For those trying to locate someone, Japanese or American, or if you have information about someone that you would like to share, please visit the Google Crisis Response site at http://www.google.co.jp/intl/en/crisisresponse/japanquake2011.html.
“Again, our deepest condolences and prayers are with everyone living in Japan or with loved ones who have been affected by this terrible disaster.”
