Santa Rosa Japanese Festival Changes Focus


SANTA ROSA — The third annual Japanese Art Festival is changing its focus due to the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster in Japan.

The event, to be held Saturday, April 2, from 12 to 4 p.m. on A Street adjacent to Juilliard Park in downtown Santa Rosa’s SOFA (South of A) Arts District, will donate a percentage of art and bake sale proceeds to relief efforts.

The festival will feature exhibits by area artists; Japanese food; crafts, including origami demonstrations and ceramics; performing arts, including shakuhachi music by Elliot Kallen, kamishibai theater (Japanese storytelling) and Sonoma County Taiko; cultural arts, including tea ceremony and judo and aikido demonstrations; and a raffle.
