NORTH HOLLYWOOD — Arigato Kai, a Japanese theater company, will perform “Mabuta no Haha” (Memory of Mother) on Friday, May 6, at 8 p.m.; Saturday, May 7, at 2 and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, May 8, at 2 p.m. at the Secret Rose Theatre, 11246 Magnolia Blvd. in North Hollywood’s Arts District.
Written by Shin Hasegawa, “Mabuta no Haha” was originally a kabuki play that premiered in 1931. It was later adapted into a non-kabuki play as well as film versions.
Directed by Kaz Matamura, this new production stars Yoshi Ando, Akira Kaneda, Mina Oba, Mie Aso, Yoshi Murakami, Kazumi Zatkin, Akiko Katagiri, Mai Kobayashi and Sachiko Mori, with Daisuke Suzuki, Toru Fujisaki, Satoshi Shimizu, Yuzu Harada and guest star Sayoko Shirotani.
All performances will include English subtitles.
Tickets are $16 in advance, $22 at the door, cash only. For groups of 10 or more, the cost is $15 per person.
For every ticket sold, $2 will be donated to the Miyagi, Sendai and Fukushima school districts, which were hard hit by last month’s earthquake and tsunami.
