Bay Area Artists Hold Benefits for Japan


SAN FRANCISCO — Bay Area Artists for Japan will present an exhibit and sale to benefit Japan earthquake relief from Friday, April 29, to Saturday, April 30, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Mina Dresden Gallery, 312 Valencia St., San Francisco

An opening reception will be held Thursday, April 28, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Participating artists include Kevin Chen, Linda Connor, Binh Danh, Jim Goldberg, Ed Hardy, Taraneh Hemmami, Suzanne Husky, Randy Hussong, Misako Inaoka, Cynthia Ona Innis, Packard Jennings, Chris McCaw, Richard Misrach, Mitzi Pederson, Catherine Wagner and James Welling.

100 percent of art sales will go to the Japanese Red Cross.

This is one of a series of events in which local artists have raised funds for earthquake and tsunami victims in Japan.

“Sketch for Japan,” held March 21 at Project One Gallery and Lounge, raised $1,800.

“Rise Japan Vol. 1,” held April 2 at Gallery Heist and Kokoro Studio, raised $15,542.

“Rise Japan Vol. 2,” held April 7 at ARC Studios & Gallery, raised $9,009.

There was also a “Rise Japan” booth at the Cherry Blossom Festival in Japantown on April 16.
