Higashi Honganji Temple, 505 E. Third St., Los Angeles, hosts a joint Korean/Japanese mini-concert in honor of victims of the Japan earthquake and tsunami on Saturday, April 30, from 3 to 5 p.m.
The performers will include Hitoshi Suzuki on cello and Alice Park on flute. Admission is free. The concert is presented by the Japan Korea Society in cooperation with the Consulate General of Japan, Higashi Honganji and Consulate General of the Republic of Korea.
Through various cultural exchange programs, the Japan Korea Society strives towards bringing awareness of a considerable presence of Japanese/Korean dual-heritage families around the Los Angeles area to the public, promoting mutual social support for the bicultural families, and enhancing public interest in the significance of friendly ties between the Japanese and Korean communities in the U.S.
The objective of this meeting is to provide the opportunity for the bicultural families to share their common concerns such as children’s education and rendering mutual congratulations and consolation. In addition, this event is aimed at promoting Korean/Japanese bicultural families as an exemplary model of peaceful intercultural coexistence and harmony between Japanese and Korean communities in the U.S.
