Town Sports International Contributes Over $50,000 to Assist Japan’s Recovery Process

NEW YORK (PRNewswire) — Town Sports International (TSI), operators of New York, Boston, Washington and Philadelphia Sports Clubs, announced on March 31 a contribution of over $50,000 to the American Red Cross to support its ongoing efforts to provide assistance and relief as Japan recovers from its most devastating earthquake to date.

As leaders in health and wellness, TSI created a unique channel for members to take a humanitarian role, while improving their lives through exercise. For a period during March, TSI health clubs donated 100 percent of the joining fee from new enrollments.

“The need in Japan is enormous, so we are thankful to partner with the Red Cross as they continue to provide thousands of survivors in Japan with life-saving aid,” said Robert Giardina, CEO and president of TSI. “As the country’s recovery needs evolve, we want to encourage others to help in whatever way they can.”

TSI’s partner, the American Red Cross, is accepting monetary donations as the organization assists victims of the Japan earthquake and tsunami. The American Red Cross is in contact with the Japanese Red Cross to assess needs and provide resources as needed. It is more efficient for disaster relief agencies to purchase needed resources locally and for immediate distribution with the disaster area. The best way for U.S. donors to help Japanese disaster survivors is to make a cash donation.
