The Japanese American Citizens League (www.jacl.org) and the California Japanese American Community Leadership Council (www.cjaclc.org) will be convening a one-day conference on “The State of Japanese America: 2011” on July 9, at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel & Spa, 1755 Highland Ave., in conjunction with the 42nd JACL National Convention.
The Saturday portion of the convention will be fully devoted to the conference. Individuals outside of JACL who are involved with the Nikkei community, including students and families, are invited to attend. Participants will engage with JACL and CJACLC members in discussing key issues facing Japanese America. The conference is expected to draw between 500-700 participants, including roughly 300 JACL convention attendees.
This one-day event will provide an opportunity to bring together voices from throughout California and the nation. Participants will share their ideas and develop common perspectives on key issues so as to incorporate them into the strategic plans of the JACL and the CJACLC.
Attendees will be asked to participate in one of the following eight conference tracks:
Art and Culture
Civic Engagement and Leadership Development
Community Preservation and Development
Historic Preservation and Education
Serving Nikkei Seniors
