Japan Relief Concert at Sokoji


SAN FRANCISCO — A Japan benefit concert will be held Sunday, May 15, at 5 p.m. at Sokoji (Soto Zen Mission of San Francisco), 1691 Laguna St. (at Sutter) in San Francisco Japantown.

The event, which is supported by Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco, will feature:

A slideshow presentation Saba Fazeli and Justin Loustau from Lick-Wilmerding High School;

Bach Double Violin Concerto in D minor, 2nd movement, with Beni Shinohara and Maki Ishii Sowash (violin), Natasha Daniels (viola), Thalia Moore (cello,) and Shinji Eshima (bass);

“Haru no Umi” by Michio Miyagi, with Shoko Hikage (koto) and Beni Shinohara (violin);

“Water,” a butoh dance by Judith Kajiwara with Shoko Hikage on koto;

Chanting of “Enmei Jukku Kannon Gyo” by members of the S.F. Zen Center.

Suggested donation: $20. All donations will benefit the Northern Japan Earthquake Relief Fund. Make checks payable to the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco.
