Proceeds from Ceramics Sales to Go to Relief Effort

SANTA MONICA — The Santa Monica College Ceramics Program is joining the Los Angeles area ceramics community in the Japanese Tea Bowl Fundraiser, in which proceeds from sales of donated cups, bowls and art ware will be directed to the Japan relief effort.

The SMC sales event will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, at the college’s ceramics studio, located at SMC’s Airport Campus (Room 170), 2800 Airport Ave., Santa Monica.

More than 90 ceramic artists from Los Angeles and around the country are donating their material, time and creativity to the fundraiser. Organizers say well-known and professional ceramicists are donating work that would normally be found at auction or gallery prices.

Sales events are also being held at the Craft and Folk Art Museum in Los Angeles, Peter Shire’s Studio in Echo Park and other locations.
