The El Camino College Japanese Culture Club will meet with representatives from the Japan America Society of Southern California to present a $6,400 check in support of earthquake and tsunami victims in Japan. Club members will present the check at 1 p.m. on June 2 in the college’s Student Activities Center, West Lounge.
Assisted by the ECC Political Science Club, the Music Society, and the Gay-Straight Alliance, students in the Japanese Culture Club organized a two-week T-shirt sale and donation drive on campus.
The Japan-America Society of Southern California, a non-profit group, will distribute the donated funds to organizations in Japan to help victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami. All donations are tax-deductible and will go directly to organizations in Japan that are contributing to the relief and recovery effort and have proven track records of immediate humanitarian relief and long-term recovery in disaster zones.
The El Camino College Japanese Culture Club is open for all students who are interested in learning more about Japanese culture. For a video supporting this recent donation drive, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXF86fOW7DE.
