BERKELEY — A new housing resource to offer residential care services for adults will soon become a reality at the J-Sei Home in Hayward, Alameda County.
The finishing touches on the renovation and the required licensing processes are now being completed with an expected opening date of the last week in June. Located at 24954 Cypress Ave., the remodeled facility was previously known as Cypress House.
With a maximum of 14 residents, in private or semi-private rooms, the J-Sei Home will be a unique provider of round-the-clock assistance that includes a Japanese bilingual staff and culturally sensitive care. A trained chef who specializes in Japanese and French cuisine will provide three meals plus snacks each day.
“We are very excited to create a warm and comfortable environment for our older adults,” states J-Sei Executive Director Diane Wong. “Our proposed standards of care will not only meet, but in most cases exceed the licensing directives as put forth by the state of California. Families need options and this is a wonderful place where people can call home.”
This new licensed facility must adhere to California’s licensing requirements regarding staffing, programming, food, individualized care plans, and service delivery regulations.
“We want to create an engaging and supportive atmosphere where people can create friendships, maintain their dignity, and cherish a strong sense of belonging,” says Laura Date, J-Sei Home administrator. “The activity coordinator, in conjunction with other staff, will plan and oversee the various exercise, games, art and discussion programs which will be offered. Quality of life, enjoyment and support is our main goal.”
A community-wide open house will be held on Friday July 8, beginning at 1:30 p.m. with a 2 p.m. program and ending at 4 p.m. Assemblymember Mary Hayashi (D-Hayward) will present J-Sei Home with a proclamation. County and city representatives and community members will participate in this celebration.
