Musicians, Artists ‘Unite 4 Japan’


Musicians and artists from the South Bay have united to present a benefit concert to raise funds for victims of Japan’s disaster on Sunday, June 12, from 4 to 8:30 p.m. at the Warner Grand Theatre, 478 W. 6th St. in San Pedro.

All proceeds will go to the 2011 Japan Relief Fund, administered by the Japan America Society of Southern California.

The concert, emceed by radio and TV personality Shadoe Stevens, will feature several prominent L.A. musicians and bands. In addition, there will be a silent auction featuring donated works from renowned local artists.

Performers will include Karin Chafetz, classical pianist; Mike Manning, guitarist for Demi Lovato; Harold Payne, singer-songwriter; The Prima Divas (the best of Broadway); The Reactors (rock); Randy St. Jeane, acoustic guitarist; Amber Stevens, star of “Greek” and “Rent”; and 2,000 Lbs of Blues with Memphis Linda Jane and Porterhouse Bob.

The “UNITE4JAPAN” benefit will disburse 100 percent of the proceeds to the Japan America Society. All donations will be forwarded to experienced non-governmental disaster relief agencies in Japan that have a proven track record of emergency humanitarian relief, restoration and development of destroyed areas.

The JASSC is a 501(c)(3) educational and charitable organization (federal tax ID #95-2021853). Donations to the 2011 Japan Relief Fund will qualify for charitable contribution tax deduction.

Admission to “UNITE4JAPAN” is $30 general, $15 for students. All ages are welcome. Tickets are available online. Those who cannot attend are encouraged to make a donation, buy a ticket, advertise in the program, or donate to the silent auction.
