Connecting on the Connector

Dolores Roybal Saltarelli, project manager for Metro, presented an update on the Regional Connector project at the Japanese American National Museum on Wednesday, one of three community meetings that Metro held last month. About 80 people gathered, and many raised concerns about business interruption during the four-year construction period. Metro emphasized that it will work closely with the community and business owners to minimize any types of disruption. The project will provide a 1.9-mile underground connection for the Metro Gold, Blue, and Exposition Light Rail Transit lines. The final EIS/EIR is expected to be adopted by the end of 2011, with the possible initiation of construction in 2013. The project will provide three new stations, serving approximately 90,000 transit passengers daily. —RYOKO NAKAMURA
