CONCORD — The Diablo Japanese American Club’s 55th annual Summer Festival will be held Saturday, Aug. 13, from 1 to 9 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 14, from 12 to 8:30 p.m. at the Japanese American Religious and Cultural Center, 3165 Treat Blvd. in Concord.
Admission is free and there is free parking available at Ygnacio Valley High School, 755 Oak Grove Blvd. There is a free shuttle from the parking lot to the festival.
This year, there will be performances by Diablo Taiko, Emeryville Taiko, Tatsumaki Taiko, and San Jose Taiko as well as Matsutoyo Kai (traditional Japanese music) and Michiya Hanayagi Kai (Japanese classical dance).
There will be displays of ikebana, bonsai and calligraphy, plus demonstrations of judo and kendo. Sushi, gyoza, tempura, beef and chicken teriyaki, udon and other dishes will be available for purchase.
Obon dancing will take place Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 6:30 p.m. The event will conclude with a raffle drawing.
