SAN FRANCISCO — A reception for Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi, who is running for San Francisco sheriff, will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Sundance Kabuki Cinema, Post and Fillmore in Japantown.
As supervisor of District 5, which includes Japantown, Mirkarimi has supported the development of the Better Neighborhood Plan, a guide for preservation and development in Japantown, and selected Carol Murata as District 5’s Small Business Week honoree for 2011. Murata owns Café Hana in Japantown and runs the concessions at the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park.
Mirkarimi was elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2004 and 2008, and was previously an investigator for the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office for nearly nine years. He has been endorsed by Sheriff Michael Hennessey, who is retiring in January after serving for more than 30 years.
