SAN MARINO — Boy Scout Troop 355 member Kevin Andrew Hiroyuki Wong, 17, recently received the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest in the Scouting program.
Wong is the eldest son of Ken and Ann Wong, and a recent graduate of San Marino High School. During his four years in high school, he was active in water polo, baseball and Treblemakers, a music club. He will attend Santa Clara University in the fall.
His scouting career began in Cub Scout Pack 354. He earned the Arrow of Light in 2004 and joined Troop 355 in San Marino. Wong has served as patrol leader, scribe, librarian and den chief.
Throughout his years with the troop, he has had many memorable experiences, including river rafting and kayaking on the Kern River, gliding, mountain biking and bicycling 50 miles in the Solvang Century Ride. He traveled to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico and backpacked for one week in August 2008.
For his Eagle Scout project, Wong built two 12-foot plant cages at Descanso Gardens in La Canada. These cages are to protect young plants from the dangers of the environment as well as wild animals. With the support of his troop and friends, he successfully completed his project in July 2010.
