WEST COVINA — The East San Gabriel Valley Japanese Community Center (ESGVJCC), 1203 W. Puente Ave. in West Covina, presents the 40th annual Akimatsuri Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 12 to 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Everyone is welcome to participate in ondo (Japanese dancing) at 7 p.m. in the center’s lot.
Other highlights will include demonstrations and performances by West Covina Aikido, Goju Ryu Karate Dojo, Kishin Daiko, Covina Kendo Dojo, Fujima Kansei Odori Kai (Japanese classical dance), and West Covina Judo.
A variety of Japanese foods will be available for purchase, including teriyaki chicken, udon, bettarayaki, sushi, chili rice, gyoza, snow cones, and more.
There will be games for children, including a moon bounce. For the adults, there will be bingo, exhibits, and a cash drawing. All proceeds from the festival will benefit the ESGVJCC, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the Japanese cultural heritage.
