Governor Appoints Chino, Miyamoto to State Posts


SACRAMENTO — Gov. Jerry Brown on Aug. 26 and 29 announced appointments to state positions, including the following:

• Tom Chino, 62, of Del Mar, has been to the 22nd District Agricultural Association, San Diego County Fair Board. He has been president of Chino Nojo, Inc. since 1982. His family farm’s produce has been praised by such culinary celebrities as Wolfgang Puck of Spago and Alice Waters of Chez Panisse.

This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Chino is registered “decline to state.”

• Kit Miyamoto, 48, of Sacramento, has been appointed to the Alfred E. Alquist Seismic Safety Commission. He has been the president and chief executive officer of Miyamoto International, a global earthquake and structural engineering firm, since 1990. He went to Haiti after the 2010 earthquake and happened to be in Japan when the March 11 earthquake and tsunami struck. He was able to survey the damage in the Tohoku area immediately. Miyamoto received a doctorate in structural engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology.

This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Miyamoto is a Republican.
