PSW JACL to Honor Community, Chapter Leaders


On Saturday, Oct. 29, the Pacific Southwest District of the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) will recognize the following as “Community Honorees”:

Mary Anne Foo of OCAPICA.

Bill Watanabe, executive director of the Little Tokyo Service Center

Madeline Ong-Sakata, executive director of the Asian Chamber of Commerce (Phoenix)

Mary Anne Foo, executive director of the Orange County Asian and Pacific Islander Community Alliance

Bill Campbell, Orange County Board of Supervisors, 3rd District

Assemblymember Warren Furutani, 55th District

“Chapter Honorees” are:

Miyo Reff (San Diego)

Clyde Wilson (Riverside)

Orange County Supervisor Bill Campbell.

Rodney Nakada (Downtown L.A.)

Harold and Ellen Kameya (San Fernando Valley)

Joyce Okazaki (Greater L.A. Singles)

Sharon Kumagai (Venice-Culver)

Frank Kawase (SELANOCO)

Dr. Richard Matsuishi (Arizona)

The event with a reception and dinner will be held at the Rose Center Theater, 14140 All American Way, Westminster, from 6 to 9 p.m.

These honorees exemplify the theme of the dinner, “Looking to the Future: Partnerships Across Communities and Generations.” The tradition and current work of JACL and the Pacific Southwest District have been to work with diverse groups and ages to achieve a shared vision of civil rights for all.

    Inquiring about reservations for Living Legends. Note that Oct. 29th is not on a Sat and we would not be able to attend on the 29th – please clarify date. Thank you.
