It feels like a game of “Where’s Waldo?” to find the signs that say something to the extent of “Hang in there, Tohoku!” GAMBAROU is the word of the year. Even billboards which have nothing to do with wishing for the region’s recovery are using the word to catch people’s attention. The yellow billboard, for example, is a real estate company expressing their support for Sendai’s pro-basketball team, the 89ers. If I didn’t look at it closely, I wouldn’t have noticed.
