Sneak Preview of ‘Surrogate Valentine’

Goh Nakamura

A sneak preview of “Surrogate Valentine,” with the director and cast in attendance, will be held on Thursday, Sept. 15, at 8 p.m. at the Japanese American National Museum, First and Central in Little Tokyo.

Directed by Dave Boyle (“White on Rice,” “Big Dreams Little Tokyo”), the film stars San Francisco singer/songwriter Goh Nakamura as a musician who is barely scraping by playing live gigs and teaching guitar. When a filmmaker friend asks him to teach guitar lessons to TV star Danny Turner (Chadd Stoops) for an upcoming movie role, Goh jumps at the chance.

While on tour together, things get complicated when Goh’s high school flame Rachel (Lynn Chen, “Saving Face,” “The People I’ve Slept With”) shows up.

Co-presented by JANM, Giant Robot and Poketo, the Los Angeles show opens with live music from Nakamura. A Q&A session will follow the screening.

Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door, and will be on sale soon at
